An explanation of different lens'
Please note, this intel only applies to SLR cameras, you are unable to change lens' on any other type of camera. There are four main types of lenses, here is a low down on them: Zoom - The most common type of lens, a zoom lens has a variable focal length, therefore you are able to "zoom in and out", there are normally two ends or extremes if you like of a zoom lens, the wide angle end and the telephoto end. The wide angle end allows you to fit a lot into the frame, whereas the telephoto end allows you to zoom in and get close to your subject. A standard 'kit lens' zoom range is 18-55mm, but there are hundreds of different zoom lenses available, for example, 10-20mm, 18-300mm, 100-400mm, you get the idea. Macro- This type of lens allows you to take photographs of very small objects and get lots of sharp detail in your photograph, such as flowers and insects, the more expensive macro lenses allow you to get a 1:1 macro representation, allowing you to see more detail in small objects than the human eye! Fixed Focal Length- This type of lens cannot "zoom in and out" it is fixed at a certain focal length such as, 300mm or 800mm, fixed focal length lenses often have more powerful telephoto powers than zoom lenses. Fish Eye- This lens uses very complex components to create a bulge like effect in your photographs, as if you where looking through a fish's eye. There are pictures of different lenses below. |
